Dad asked me to post his thoughts, as follows, regarding the recent gathering at Curtis in his honor:
“I wish thank all my friends who participated in the November 23rd concert at Curtis as a gift to me in celebration of my 90th birthday. I was overwhelmed by such generous preparation and performance. Thank you.” Bernard Garfield
In appreciation of the recent IDRS 90th Celebration in my father’s honor, Dad asked me to post the following comments today in his own words:
“To my friends and colleagues who performed my compositions at the 2014 conference in New York, I am so sorry I was unable to stay for your performances. I know you worked very hard for these presentations. I am looking forward to hearing the recording of the events. I really treasure the respect you have shown me, and I thank you for that.” BG
Happy 90th Birthday Mr. Garfield. Your playing, especially your Mozart Concerto recording on the First Chair album, has always been my goal. I have loved your tone, articulation, intonation, and expression and have strived to approach those standards in my own playing, andteaching. May you have a joyous Birthay and I hope you realize just how important your playing has been to my generation of Bassoonists
